SLIT was succesful at treating peanut allergy at Duke

Duke University School of Medicine is participating in a multi-institutional study looking at treating life threatening peanut allergy with sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT or allergy drops). Dr. Wesley Burks, Chief of the Division of Pediatric Allergy, was recently quoted in the Duke Medicine Review 2009, published and distributed by Duke University. According to Dr. Burks, "It appears these children have lost their peanut allergy." This is the first demonstration of long-term peanut tolerance in study participants, measured via immunologic indicators in the body. These finding were presented at the American Academy of Asthma and Immunology in Washington, DC.
